Not without us: workshop for schools
In small groups, pupils dive deep into the thematic learning stations of the workshop. They explore various activities and areas of influence of women. What did women fight for during the economic crisis in the so-called "milk war"? What does a club have to do with women being able to get home safely at night in the 1980s and 1990s? What role did and does gender play in career choices? By working with sources, students gain new insights and discover relevant issues. They realise that women's history is closely linked to social, economic, migration and democratic history. Swiss women had to fight for a long time for their political and social participation, which they use today to engage in various causes.
The workshop provides a basic understanding of the mission and importance of archives for society. It also encourages reflection on which future stories should find their way into the archive. We would be delighted if you would like to take part with your class. The programme is free of charge and lasts approx. 2.5 hours.
We would like to thank the Burgergemeinde Bern for its project contribution to the development of this workshop.
Archive suitcase to take away
We have an archive suitcase available for loan. It allows pupils between the age of 12 and 18 to learn about the archive and its founder Marthe Gosteli. It also provides an insight into the wide variety of documents stored in an archive and the activities and tasks carried out by an archive. The case contains a comprehensive collection of originals or faithful reproductions of sources from various historical periods stored in the archive. An accompanying booklet contains all the necessary information and some assignments.
The case can be used to prepare for or follow up a visit to the archives or independently to explore the nature of archives and the Swiss women's movement. It can be borrowed free of charge. If you are unable to collect it from us, we can send it but ask you to refund the postage to us.
