The Gosteli archive has a lot to tell. After all, the history of women's movements in Switzerland dates back to the 19th century. Political rights, social security, equal rights in working life, the recognition of unpaid work, the right to abortion, protection against domestic and sexualised violence: the issues of women's movements are changing and yet have remained the same for over a hundred years.
Long before women in Switzerland gained their political rights, they were active in a variety of ways. They joined together in clubs, associations or loose groups to demand their rights and to bring about social change. They founded schools to strengthen women's vocational training. They organised, they congregated, they debated and protested, they wrote and orated, they advocated and celebrated.
